Context & Assumptions

In thin-layer drying operations, the constant-rate period is governed by external convective mass transfer from the material surface to the air stream. This calculator determines the drying rate using the Chilton-Colburn analogy to relate heat and mass transfer coefficients, and verifies that internal thermal resistance is negligible via the Biot number criterion (Bi < 0.1). The analysis assumes flat-plate forced convection and constant thermophysical properties.
