Context & Assumptions

Flooding in tray columns is a critical operational limit in process engineering, representing the point at which vapor velocity prevents the downward flow of liquid. This calculator uses the Souders-Brown correlation to determine the theoretical maximum vapor velocity and compares it with actual operating conditions. By evaluating both the percent flood and the pressure drop ratio, process engineers can diagnose active column flooding and maintain stable hydraulic operation.
