Context & Assumptions

Flash distillation is a single-stage vapor–liquid separation process in which a pressurized liquid feed is throttled into a vessel at a lower pressure. The operating line equation represents the material balance relating the vapor and liquid compositions leaving the flash drum. It is used in conjunction with equilibrium data to determine the compositions of the separated phases.
