The Biot number gauges whether temperature inside a solid can be considered uniform during transient heating or cooling. A small Bi (<0.1) means internal conduction is fast compared with surface convection, so the object behaves as a single thermal mass. This lets engineers simplify models and quickly estimate heating/cooling times.
